The Old City: Chiang Mai and Doi Suthep

The Old City: Chiang Mai and Doi Suthep

A sort of arial map of my time in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  Shows the old city (within square walls) and the winding road up the Doi Suthep, the temple on the mountain that watches over the city, along with some personal events of my time there.  Acrylic on board, approximately 2 x 2 feet.  In a private collection.

Tree with the Lights in it

Tree with the Lights in it

Etching and watercolor, ©2003.

Inspired by the Golden Delicious apple tree in the backyard where I grew up, which would retain apples after the leaves fell off.  At dusk in late autumn, the apples would glow like little lanterns.  There's a store in Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek about a girl who was born blind, but regained her sight...after the operation, she recognized a peach tree by touch, and then looked up and called it "the tree with the lights in it."  A story about seeing things with fresh eyes.

Also available as a card in my online store.  The original edition is sold out.

Woolpack Inn Mural

Woolpack Inn Mural

Mural in top bar (Walkers' Bar) at the Woolpack Inn in Boot, Holmrook, Cumbria, England.  Painted in 2007, while enjoying the Lake District (with the worst head cold of my life) while my brother learned how to brew beer.
